Survivor by Paul Langan
Tarah Carson has a good life, good friends, a great family, a job she loves, and a dream boyfriend. She also has a secret she has kept hidden for ten years, but as a family reunion gets closer and she discovers she will once again have to face her Uncle Rudy. Tarah stressing that her Uncle Rudy is coming to Aunt Deborah's 90th birthday party and family reunion. Tarah has never told anyone what happened with Uncle Rudy when she was 6 years old, and now she's having flashbacks. Uncle Rudy was fifteen when he took Tarah innocence and childhood from her. After hearing she's kind of cranky and paranoid because she's stressing. She's now lying to her boyfriend Cooper, her mom, her best friend - well, everyone. She accuses Shanetta of stealing her boyfriend, and is giving Cooper the silent treatment alternating with nagging treatment. Tarah continues to struggle with doing the right thing until it becomes clear that she is not the only one that is in danger and she will do anything to protect someone else from the abuse. At her job, which is at the daycare, her coworker asks Tarah did she want to babysit for her while she finally has time to herself with her husband. Tarah immediately accept the offer to not go to family reunion and not see Uncle Rudy. But, what she had realized is that Uncle Rudy will be staying the night at her cousin house with a 3 year old child Kayla. Tarah had to make a choice: either not babysit or stay with her cousin’s child to keep her from danger of becoming the next victim. Tarah went to work then after she got off work she went straight to the family reunion to look for Uncle Rudy but her cousin said that Uncle Rudy left with Kayla and he is going to be watching Kayla for the night. Tarah left the reunion to go to her cousin house to find out Uncle Rudy was taking a shower while Kayla was in bed. When Uncle Rudy Came out the shower with his sleeping close on Tarah confronted Uncle Rudy about how he rape her and he wasn't going to touch Kayla while she is there. Uncle Rudy was trying to convince Tarah that he was drunk when he did that & she shouldn't tell anyone about what he did because he's engaged. But, Tarah wasn't trying to hear his side of the story so she had text her boyfriend Coop to come pick up her and Kayla and take them to her house. Tarah felt like a survivor when she got home because the incident make her stronger and she use it to save someone else. The author intend to explain a story to about someone who might feel alone can conquer their fear and help someone else who might be in trouble. The orginizational pattern for Survivor is problem and solution because Tara was hiding her problems from everybody but at the end she learn to conquer her fears to move on and forgive her Uncle about the situation.
